Dinner at Deacon Brodie’s Tavern was our last meal in Edinburgh. We went upstairs to order dinner, past the festive pub goers on the ground floor. It was pretty crowded, so we had to wait a bit to be seated. While waiting I went into the ladies loo (restroom) and got into a conversation with an Englishwoman who was fascinated that Trisha and I were from Texas. She asked the usual questions: do Texans really have big ranches and wear cowboy hats and boots and drive Cadillacs? No doubt she’d seen the movie Giant. I explained that wasn’t the norm, no. Then she asked about our trip and said Glasgow wasn’t worth the trouble, but after reading more about it since I’ve returned, I think I would like to see Glasgow when I return. She was tipsy and funny, but she cursed a lot.

When we were finally seated, we enjoyed chicken pie and fish pie with long veggie strips I couldn’t cut with a knife. I never figured out if they were just garnish or meant to be eaten.

After dinner we realized it was past 9:00 and not getting dark–the days are longer in the summer there–so we hopped the tram and returned to our hotel to pack.

worse the next few days!
It was a very early morning with an early flight, but we managed to make it to the airport on time, even grabbing coffee and a croissant from the hotel breakfast bar. I had asked about coffee the night before, and I believe they set up early just for us! We had no issues flying from Edinburgh to London, but I got stopped in security at Heathrow because of something in my bag. It was the cheese I had purchased at House of Bruar, and the agent was in training and had to be coached on how to proceed. When he finally released me, we had to rush to the gate, the last one in the terminal, of course, but we made it just before boarding began. Whew!

I won’t bore you with the details of our flight, but it was so much more pleasant going than coming! My son Matt and grandson Kip were waiting for me in Dallas, and sad as I was to say goodbye to bonnie Scotland, I was glad to be in Texas again. The signs say “Haste ye back!” and that’s exactly what I intend to do. . .someday. . .

What about you? Have you ever been to Scotland or the UK? What was your favorite part of your trip?
XOXO
